The role of therapy in the face of life's challenges
Many of us feel tired, exhausted by routine and day-to-day life. Sometimes without much purpose or wondering what we're here for. We go through pain and loss, bereavements, relationship breakdowns, job layoffs, moving to another city and other processes that can cause suffering, and so the desire to find a cure for our pain and issues comes to us.
Many people think that healing means eliminating symptoms, being in a state of perfection or balance, but it's far more than that. Healing means transformation and maturing.
Etymologically, the word cure comes from the Latin word “curo”, which means to give attention.
In Greek, the word would be “therapeuo” (θεραπευω), meaning to heal or restore health, and it is also associated with the word “therapon” (θεραπων), or therapist who is the “servant of God, or servant of the soul”, which is exactly what I seek in my work in therapy, to be at the service of the Soul.
Pain does not exist on its own. They manifest themselves in an individual with a life story, experiences, expectations, dreams, desires and affections. It is by recognizing the human being as a whole that we can also begin the healing process in therapy.
Therefore, cure in therapy is more than just getting rid of symptoms, but maturing through the process, dealing with our pain and suffering and learning to connect with our souls' desires.
And why Cure of the Waters (Cura das Águas)?
Throughout time, water has been associated with emotions and feelings. There are various correspondences in literature, films, books, tarot and astrology that connect these two aspects.
Over time, I noticed that it was difficult for people to really look at each other, and we ended up relating a lot through projections, because we still carry a lot of emotional wounds.
In Portuguese, the word “mágoas” can even refer to “bad waters” or stagnant waters, which don't circulate, which have no life, which become blocked, as happens in some conditions such as depression and melancholy.
The Healing of the Waters comes from an understanding that by looking at our inner waters, it is possible to open ourselves up with more ease, enthusiasm and courage for the world, for relationships and for life in all its forms.
I'm here to help you on your journey. If you would like to know more about my work, please get in touch and I can help you in this process of maturing and awakening to inner healing, the Cure of the Waters
